My children are age 7 and 4. Both are girls and very helpful in my home office. They often can be too helpful (if you know what I mean). Getting them involved is important though. If gives them a since of pride in helping my business succeed. It also helps them understand what mommy does when she's in her office. All of my business with Mommy's@Work is conducted via the internet. Being able to conduct my business at home has afforded me many advantages. One, as many parents out there are striving to do, I am able to get more involved with my children's education, recreation, and spiritual needs. There are so many moms who no longer want the responsibility of raising the family and working outside the home. Sure, there are a lot of women who love their corporate status, but many are seeing its no longer worth the price of not being there for their children". Combining work with children is a difficult task, but many women today are searching for that balance. According to the National Foundation of Women Business Owners (NFWBO), there are 3.5 million home-based women-owned businesses in the U.S. Women today are capitalizing on the opportunities to work at home. Through the boom of the Internet, it is no longer necessary to have large amounts of capital to start a business. This opens the door for women, who traditionally lacked financing to start their own business. Moms and dads are finding new ways everyday to stay home with their children. With the help of the Internet, they can now work at home and be a part of their childrens lives. We can strike a balance between our career and family life. Everyone wins in this situation Copyright 1999 LaDonna Vick |
